The Tod’s brand began when Diego Della Valle took over the family shoe business. This happened in 1978. The line started when Diego created a Moccasin with a rubber sole that became the rage. He named the company JP Tods by randomly picking a name out of the Boston telephone directory. At a later date he dropped the JP because to many people thought JP Tods was a real person. In 1997 Tods began adding handbags to their line. -
